Register for a conversation: Pucker Gallery Artist Samuel Bak, Professor Mark Celinscak, and Gallery Director Bernie Pucker on 28 February at 6:15pm
We are all composed of all that we have met. This phrase well applies to the life and art of Samuel Bak. Before settling in the Boston area, he had lived in 16 different places. His art serves as a commentary on his life and his Journey.
Dr. Celinscak is a historian of twentieth century Britain and Europe, specializing in war, Holocaust and genocide studies. He is the author of Distance from the Belsen Heap: Allied Forces and the Liberation of a Nazi Concentration Camp. This award-winning book explores how military personnel struggled with the intense experience of liberation, how they attempted to describe what they had seen, heard, and felt to those back home, and how their lives were ultimately transformed by the encounter. His follow-up book, Kingdom of Night: Witnesses to the Holocaust, is under contract with the University of Toronto Press and due to be published this summer.
